Privacy Policy
Effective November 5, 2026
Black Art Speaks respects the people who make our creative community possible. This policy explains how we handle information through our website and connected member services.
Information you provide
Depending on the service you use, we may receive your name, email, contact details, membership application, artist biography, portfolio links, uploaded files, messages, order details and event registrations. Please do not include sensitive information that is not requested.
How information is used
We use information to respond to inquiries, review applications, manage membership, maintain artist profiles, provide member services, process purchases and dues, coordinate events and share updates. Public artist-directory information is separate from private application, account and payment records.
Public profiles and submissions
Information approved for an artist profile or public event may be displayed on the website or member directory. Photos and other submitted content may be reviewed before being shared. Contact BAS if you need a correction or want to discuss removing public information.
Website, payment and media services
Our website uses Wix services for hosting, forms, member records and checkout. Payment services process information needed to complete transactions. Our connected member app supports profiles, opportunities, applications, messages and other member activities. Authorized staff use these records to provide those services.
Public events may be displayed from the BAS shared Google Calendar. Gallery links may open Pixxel Designs collections on Pixieset, and videos may use Vimeo. When you open an external service, its own privacy practices apply. Embedded services may receive technical information when they load.
Cookies and technical information
Website services may use cookies and similar technologies to support sign-in, shopping carts, security and site operation. You can manage cookies through your browser and any consent controls displayed on the website. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent sign-in, forms or checkout from working. External media and linked services have their own privacy and cookie policies.
Email and your choices
You can use the preference or unsubscribe link in marketing emails to change those subscriptions. Messages needed to handle an application, membership, purchase or support request may still be sent. For account or profile corrections, or questions about information held by BAS, contact us using the address below.
Access, retention and security
Access is limited to authorized people who need information to provide BAS services. Our retention policy is to keep unsuccessful applications and their uploads for two years after the application closes, and resolved contact inquiries for two years after the last substantive response. Active membership and selected-project records are retained while the relationship or project continues and for two years afterward, unless a longer period is needed for a contract, grant, dispute or legal requirement. Transaction and tax-supporting records are generally retained for seven years; records needed to establish our tax-exempt status, filed tax returns and permanent organizational records are retained as required. Newsletter information is kept while you remain subscribed, with a minimal suppression record retained to honor unsubscribe requests. We review records periodically and delete or anonymize information that is no longer needed. Legal holds and applicable recordkeeping requirements take priority.
Contact and updates
For privacy questions, email info@blackartspeaks.com. Please describe your request without sending passwords or payment-card details. The BAS administrative team coordinates requests sent to this address. You may request access to, correction of or deletion of your information. We may verify your identity and retain information when required by law or needed to resolve a transaction, contract or dispute. We aim to acknowledge requests within five business days and explain the next steps; applicable legal deadlines take priority. Changes to this policy will appear here with an updated effective date.
