I chose to make this piece inspired by my older brother who is currently incarcerated. The boy sitting in the corner is representing him in a classroom, and on the chalk board the “Just Teach Me” is a plea from the child. The child needing better guidance and direction sits alone in the corner where so often people are left. Everyone makes mistakes and that doesn’t make us monsters. Unfortunately, some people see them as such, just off the choices they made or life changing situations that happened. They fail to realize it's these issues and traumatic experiences that caused those decisions also. Educate and rehabilitate instead of deciding to incarcerate.
